Artist Statement

I use my photographs and abstract artwork together to create one unified work of art. My photographs symbolize the physical world we live in. My abstract artwork symbolizes the spiritual world. Using my photographs and abstract artwork together in one unified work symbolizes the merging of the physical and spiritual worlds into one world. This historic human (and cosmic) event will occur in the future when humanity takes the next step in its evolution and spiritually evolves. Our spiritual evolution will not develop over millions of years the way human evolution has. It will be a sudden event and take us by surprise and change human history. Because for the first time in human history, human beings will find themselves living in the spiritual world while continuing to live in the physical world. By living in two worlds at once, they will merge the two worlds into one world and form the new world of the future.

I imagine the new world of the future in my art by using a visual language of faces, figures, forms, lines and shapes which work together to describe the new world from the visual, emotional and cognitive point of view of the spiritually evolved human beings who will be living in it. I create the elements of my visual language with photographs I have taken and with the abstract artwork I make with my drawing, painting, collage and assemblage. I imbue my visual language with the sense it contains eternal truths, because the spiritual world contains eternal truths which will be absorbed into our new world when the two worlds merge. The spiritually evolved human beings will discover the eternal truths of the spiritual world in their new world. They will use those eternal truths as the foundation of the enlightened human civilization they will create in their new world. I imagine this future human civilization in my art and I try to convey through my art how the spiritually evolved human beings of the future will feel to suddenly find themselves living in a new world they do not recognize that is two worlds in one.
